What you'll study

Course emphases align with the expectations for D.Min. readiness: critical analysis of biblical resources, research methods in biblical studies, theology or church history, and original research leading to scholarly contribution. The school evaluates submitted transcripts to determine which prior courses fit into the M.Div. equivalency plan and grants as many credits as applicable toward the 72-hour M.Div. standard.

Entry requirements

• Complete the program application and pay the non-refundable processing fee.
• Submit official transcripts from all previous colleges showing a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution or equivalent.
• Hold a cumulative undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
• Provide two letters of recommendation.
• Submit a reflective essay (purpose statement) of 3–5 pages, typed and double-spaced.
• Complete an academic writing assessment.

Career prospects

Graduates who complete M.Div. equivalency and move on to doctoral study or ministry roles commonly serve as lead pastors, associate pastors, Christian educators, chaplains, and in a range of ministry settings including social justice and nonprofit ministries. The program emphasizes research skills and primary-source competence in biblical studies, theology, or church history to prepare graduates for scholarly and pastoral responsibilities.

Scholarships & funding angle

ACU’s Graduate School of Theology has offered targeted funding for certain cohorts; for example, a 50% scholarship is available for future military chaplains entering the M.Div. program. Students pursuing equivalency should consult the school for current funding opportunities and how transfer-credit decisions affect overall cost and time to D.Min. eligibility.
