Programme overview

The Bachelor of Professional Arts, Human Services Major is a degree-completion pathway that recognizes prior diplomas and workplace experience. It combines students' existing practical knowledge with theory and research from human services to broaden understanding of the social, cultural and political contexts that shape practice. The program is offered fully online and can be finished in as little as two years of full-time study, with no imposed time limit for completion.

Entry requirements

Applicants are expected to have completed an approved two-year diploma or equivalent from an accredited college or institute of technology, or a combination of post-secondary education and relevant work experience. While admission is confirmed, applicants are considered pre-program students but may still register in courses. All applicants must complete Athabasca University's English Language Assessment (ELA) before program enrolment.

Career prospects

Graduates are prepared for advanced or leadership responsibilities within human services sectors named by the program, including child and youth care, corrections, counselling, early childhood education, personal support services, rehabilitation and social services. Typical expanded roles include administrative, counselling, supervisory and management functions.
