What you'll study

The program typically comprises a focused set of core units that introduce practical and theoretical foundations of data science. You will study topics such as data programming and software tools (commonly Python or R), statistical methods for data analysis, data management and databases, data visualisation, and introductory machine learning and predictive analytics. Units also address real-world applications through hands-on project work, practice with datasets, and attention to data ethics, privacy and governance.

Entry requirements

Admission is usually open to applicants who hold a recognised bachelor degree in any discipline, although those with quantitative or computing backgrounds may find the transition easier. Applicants without a degree but with substantial relevant professional experience in analytics, programming or a technical role may also be considered. International applicants will need to meet ACU's English language requirements. You should be prepared to supply academic transcripts, a curriculum vitae and any documentation of relevant work experience as part of your application.

Graduates use the Graduate Certificate in Data Science to move into or advance within roles that require practical data skills.
