What you'll study

This programme combines core management and aviation-specific modules with applied projects to develop operational, strategic and analytical skills for the air transport sector. Teaching is delivered through lectures, case studies, workshops, simulation exercises and industry guest lectures, with a significant individual project or dissertation that addresses a real-world challenge.

• Core topics: air transport strategy and policy, airline and airport management, aviation economics, air transport operations and performance, and air transport finance and commercial management.
• Operational and technical modules: airport planning and operations, air traffic management fundamentals, airline scheduling and network planning, and cargo and ground operations.
• Management and analytical skills: project management, strategic marketing for aviation, quantitative methods for transport, risk and safety management, and regulatory and legal aspects of aviation.
• Optional/specialist topics: sustainable aviation and decarbonisation, aircraft leasing and finance, aviation security, advanced airport systems, and digitalisation/analytics in air transport.
• Individual project/dissertation: an industry-linked research or consultancy project allowing you to apply classroom learning to a practical problem, typically supervised by academic staff and often co-sponsored by an employer or industry partner.

Entry requirements

Applicants are normally expected to hold a good honours degree (UK 2:1 or international equivalent) in a relevant subject such as business, economics, engineering, mathematics or physical sciences. Applicants with a lower second-class degree plus relevant professional experience in aviation may also be considered. The programme welcomes applicants with operational experience from airlines, airports or aviation authorities; such experience can strengthen an application.

All applicants whose first language is not English must demonstrate proficiency in English. Successful applicants are selected on the basis of academic record, references and the strength of their application statement; an interview may be requested in some cases.
