What you'll study

The curriculum combines foundational public-health coursework with training in data science and methods for assessing determinants of health. Students take public-health courses plus classes in data science, qualitative research methods, leadership, cultural understanding and health, and policymaking. The degree requires at least 42 credits composed of foundational courses and related electives, and culminates in a capstone project completed at an internship site. Experiential learning, research projects and institutional partnerships are incorporated into the program experience.

Entry requirements

Current Lehigh undergraduates who achieve junior standing (minimum 54 credits) and maintain an overall GPA of at least 3.5 may elect enrollment in the 4+1 accelerated program. Students who do not qualify for direct admittance to the MS or MPH on the basis of GPA must apply for acceptance; two letters of recommendation are required for those applicants.

Career prospects

Graduates are prepared for roles in government, research, practice and policymaking related to population and public health. The program’s combination of public-health fundamentals, data-science skills and an applied capstone supports work across research, policy development, program implementation and community health settings.
