• Integrated technique in ballet, modern dance and jazz (including tap, pointe and Pilates)
• Improvisation, solo and group composition, contact improvisation and partnering studies
• Nuanced performance in classical and contemporary styles with opportunities for solo and ensemble work
• Professional production skills such as lighting, costuming and technical theatre
• Historical, scientific and pedagogical foundations of dance (dance history and dance sciences)
• Use of web and media technology for presentation and promotion of dance
• Related coursework in music and theatre; minors available in Music, Theatre, Dance or Music Composition

Entry requirements

Admission into the BFA in Dance requires an audition. Conservatory minors and some program options may also require approval or audition by the Division/Department Chair.

Career prospects

Graduates are prepared for a variety of contemporary dance careers including concert performance with modern and jazz companies, commercial work (Broadway, touring, cruise lines, video/film), and studio teaching. Training also supports careers in arts promotion, marketing and teaching, and provides a foundation for advanced study in arts-informed health and wellness professions such as physical therapy, exercise sciences, massage and fitness training.
