A practice-focused MA that trains students to plan and execute advertising and public relations campaigns using social media research tools, content creation, and brand-development techniques. Best suited to aspiring strategic communicators who want hands-on experience with analytics, campaign work and internships in agency or organizational settings.
The curriculum blends theory and technology to teach messaging strategies for targeted audiences. Coursework covers content creation and maintenance, ad writing and design, web design and SEO, customer-client relationship skills, and methods for collecting and analyzing social media and consumer data. Students also learn to produce social media analytics reports and conduct marketing communication research such as field observations, focus groups, surveys and consumer data analysis.
Applicants must submit a completed application and $50 application fee (fee waived for campus visitors), a resume, unofficial transcripts of all post-secondary work (official transcripts and proof of degree conferral required before first class if admitted), a goal statement, and two letters of recommendation. International applicants must provide TOEFL, IELTS, Duolingo or PTE-Academic scores. The program has stated deadlines for fall and spring intake (with earlier dates for international applicants) and also accepts rolling applications.
