What you'll study

Students tailor coursework to their interests in consultation with an advisor; competitive applicants typically have undergraduate preparation in cellular biology, molecular biology, genetics and chemistry. The program emphasizes hands-on research under faculty guidance, seminar participation, and opportunities to publish and present findings.

Entry requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in biology or equivalent demonstrating readiness for advanced study.
• Strong academic performance in relevant coursework; preference is given to applicants with a GPA of at least 3.2 in the last 60 credit hours.
• Evidence of hands-on research experience and alignment of research interests with faculty programs.
• Curriculum vitae or resume.
• Statement of purpose (1–3 pages) outlining background, reasons for graduate study, and alignment with the program and faculty.
• Three academic references provided as email addresses; recommenders submit letters directly through the application system.
• Interview (videoconference or phone) for candidates under departmental consideration.
• GRE is not currently required.
• Admissions timelines: Priority deadline for fall admission is March 1; regular deadline June 1. Spring and summer admission are not offered.

Scholarships & funding angle (general)

Most admitted M.S. students are offered Graduate Assistantships for the first two years; GA holders are considered full-time when enrolled in at least 5 credit hours and may qualify for in-state tuition rates. TWU currently does not provide institutional tuition waivers; graduate students commonly offset costs through GA appointments and by applying for scholarships. No separate application is required for GA consideration.
