Programme overview

The Master of Divinity at Anderson University is a 75-credit, three-year online master’s degree intended to prepare students for ministry and for doctoral study in theology or ministry. Coursework combines biblical and theological study with practical ministry training; the program includes a supervised internship placed in a church setting. The program is I-20 approved and is administered by the College of Christian Studies under Program Director Dr. Luke Stamps.

What you'll study

Coursework trains students to interpret Scripture accurately, use biblical languages to deepen understanding, and integrate theological learning with ministry practice. Key taught topics and course sequences include preaching (from sermon idea and structure through delivery), biblical interpretation, biblical languages, and a sequence of leadership courses that address relating to people, organizing a church, managing staff, and overseeing a budget. The curriculum culminates in an internship where students work alongside senior pastors, music ministers, youth ministers or other church leaders to gain practical ministry experience.

Entry requirements

Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree. Official undergraduate transcripts from a regionally accredited institution are required; if graduate work has been completed, official graduate transcripts should also be submitted. If the undergraduate degree is not from a regionally accredited university, a GRE may be required. The application deadline is two weeks before a term start date. Terms begin in Fall (August & October), Spring (January & March) and Summer (May & June).

Career prospects

Graduates are prepared for roles such as senior or associate pastor, youth minister, children’s minister, worship leader, hospital or military chaplain, mission worker, denominational leader, or teacher. The program also equips students who plan to continue into doctoral programs (Ph.D. or D.Min.). Note that job placement and internship opportunities are not guaranteed and outcomes depend on location, career path and personal qualifications.
