Programme overview

The Painting and Drawing concentration is a rigorous, seated undergraduate program that immerses students in the traditions and practices of painting and drawing. The curriculum emphasizes materials and techniques (including oil, acrylic, and mixed media) while integrating technological tools and study of historical and contemporary masters. The program runs four years (eight semesters), requires 120 total credit hours, and admits new students for Fall (August) and Spring (January). The program is I-20 approved and is directed by Peter Kaniaris.

What you'll study

Coursework teaches a broad approach to painting and drawing with hands-on instruction in media and methods. Students learn oil, acrylic, mixed-media processes and are introduced to technological tools to support creative work. Study of historical and contemporary masters is threaded through the curriculum. No previous degree is required. Applicants must submit official high school or GED transcripts; transfer applicants must provide official transcripts from prior institutions. Anderson University uses a rolling admission process; applicants are encouraged to apply by December 1 for strongest scholarship consideration and no later than July 1 to begin in the fall semester.

Graduates leave with a professional portfolio and preparation for graduate study or careers as practicing artists. Other potential roles include art educator, museum or gallery assistant, curator, or professional artist.
