What you'll study

Students follow a diverse, healthcare‑specific curriculum intended to introduce a variety of occupations and to build a solid base for advanced study. The degree includes flexible laboratory science requirements and up to nine hours of concentrated electives which may be used to satisfy prerequisites for particular healthcare careers. Learning opportunities support development of interpersonal and clinical reasoning skills and may enable students to obtain shadowing/observation hours relevant to their chosen field.

Entry requirements

There is no separate or limited admissions process for the programme; students enter the professional programme courses once eligible. Minimum requirements for progression into the professional program of study are:

• Declared Health Sciences major
• A cumulative overall GPA of 2.00
• Satisfactory grades per institutional policy for all Area A–F courses (60 hours)
• All Area F courses completed with a grade of C or better

Career prospects

The degree prepares graduates for employment in healthcare roles such as medical assistant, healthcare informatics, health education, environmental health, medical sales and public health, among others. It also serves as preparation for graduate or professional programs including anesthesiologist assistant, athletic training, dentistry, exercise physiology, medicine, nursing (as a second degree), occupational therapy, optometry, physical therapy and physician assistant — noting that specific prerequisites vary by program.
