What you'll study

Study is organized into Areas of Emphasis composed primarily of upper-level courses. Two curricular tracks are offered:

• Option A: First discipline 21 hours; Second discipline 21 hours; Guided electives 9 hours.
• Option B: First discipline 15 hours; Second discipline 15 hours; Third discipline 15 hours; Guided electives 6 hours.

Total program credit requirement is 120 semester hours. Within each Area of Emphasis you may apply at most one lower-level course (1000–2000 level); the remainder must be upper-level (3000–4000). A minimum of 39 upper-division hours must be taken across the disciplines in the interdisciplinary major.

Entry requirements

Areas of the curriculum (Area F and the Senior College Curriculum) and all courses in the interdisciplinary major must be completed with a grade of C or better. If a student selects the Honors option, they must complete 6 hours of Foreign Language and Culture plus required Honors courses and meet the GPA standard set by the Honors College.

Because the degree is self-designed, career paths vary widely; employers often seek the practical skills developed alongside the chosen disciplines rather than a single specific major.
