A 33-month, full-time bachelor’s programme that trains students to deliver radiation therapy as part of a cancer-care team. Suited to applicants with at least one year of post-secondary study who want hands-on patient work, strong attention to detail, and a mix of clinical and technical learning.

What you'll study

Instruction combines theoretical classroom work, laboratory practice and supervised clinical placements. Students gain technical skills using contemporary radiation therapy equipment, client-centred care experience through direct patient contact, and professional behaviours required by the CAMRT competency profile. Learning modalities include lectures, labs and clinical rotations at two provincial cancer centres.

Entry requirements

The programme has a two-step admission process and accepts applicants who are residents of British Columbia; international applicants are not eligible. Intakes are scheduled for September each year and applications are accepted from October 1 to September 1 (intake may fill earlier).

  • Academic background: minimum one year (30.0 credits) of post-secondary university-level study with at least 60% in each required course area.
  • Post-secondary course requirements: 6.0 credits mathematics (progressive first-year sequence; statistics does not meet this requirement; calculus-based courses are strongly recommended), 6.0 credits physics (first-year post-secondary physics; progressive sequence recommended), 3.0 credits English (preferably composition), and 6.0 credits general education.
  • Biology: one of several accepted options at 73% (examples include Anatomy & Physiology 12, BHSC foundational human anatomy/biology courses, a Biology 12 challenge exam, or 3.0 post-secondary human biology credits).
  • English proficiency: English Studies 12 (73%) or equivalent.
  • Supporting items: Mandatory Applicant Questionnaire submitted with the application; applicants with post-secondary studies outside specified countries must provide a course-by-course credential evaluation.
  • Conditional requirements upon acceptance: criminal record check, immunization review (immunization is mandatory), CPR Level C valid for three years, Student Acknowledgement of Program and Physical Requirements form, and a face respirator (N95) fit test before clinical practicum.
  • Additional notes: Indigenous applicants may be considered through a dedicated admissions process and reserved seat(s) per intake; further biology credits are an asset.

Career prospects

Graduates meet the educational expectations of the CAMRT national competency profile and are prepared to write the CAMRT national certification exam required to practise as a registered radiation therapist. Career roles involve working as medical radiation technologists in radiation therapy within cancer centres and other oncology care settings.
