What you'll study

Core topics include heat and mass transfer, fluid mechanics, energy and mass balances, and operation of unit operations such as distillation, absorption, liquid-liquid extraction, crystallization, evaporation and drying. Reactor engineering is covered from batch reactors to continuous stirred tanks, fixed-bed and fluidized-bed reactors. Instrumentation, applied process dynamics and control, and a capstone design course that simulates an entire chemical/biochemical/petrochemical plant (including safety, hazard analysis and economic assessment) are also part of the programme. Technical electives may cover areas like renewable energy systems, wastewater treatment and oil, gas and petrochemical processing; non-technical electives address topics such as engineering ethics and humanities. Semester 1 examples include General Chemistry and Laboratory I, General Mathematics P, Physics I (Mechanics & Heat), Computer Laboratory, a core humanities course and EFL 101.

Entry requirements

Admission is open to graduates of the 12th year in Mathematics or Natural Sciences or graduates of the pre-university Mathematics or Natural Sciences program. Applicants from other K‑12 streams can qualify by completing a General Studies program focused on mathematics, physics and chemistry, typically achievable in two to four semesters depending on the student's progress.
