See the degree grade →An accelerated, 30-credit graduate programme for liberal-arts graduates and career changers who want to become certified K–12 teachers in Pennsylvania. It combines asynchronous online coursework with a full school-year internship (including student teaching) in a Pennsylvania classroom and is suited to applicants who can manage focused online study and sustained in-class placement.
The curriculum is organised into foundational, advanced/pedagogical, and field experience components. Courses emphasise inclusive practice, assessment, subject-specific methods, and supervised classroom experience.
Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8 to enter the MAT. A GPA of 3.0 is required to maintain enrollment during summer sessions. All Washington & Jefferson College academic policies and regulations apply. Each course used toward certification or the degree requires a minimum grade of C.
The programme prepares graduates to teach at elementary or secondary levels and to pursue Pennsylvania teacher certification after passing the required state subject-area exams. The college highlights particularly strong demand for teachers in mathematics, science, and world languages. Graduates acquire classroom management, curriculum design, culturally responsive strategies, technology integration, and reflective practice to work effectively in diverse K–12 settings.
Graduate tuition is stated at $700 per credit hour (no additional costs or fees listed).
