The HTW, which is the largest university of applied sciences in Berlin, provides an 18-month full-time Master's degree course in "International and Development Economics" (MIDE) that is taught exclusively in English. The program is intended for students from developing and transitioning countries, as well as Germany and other developed countries who have a keen interest in the economic obstacles that "third world" countries face. Its purpose is to prepare students for work in fields linked to global economic affairs and development.

The Master's program in International and Development Economics is designed for students who have a primary degree in economics/business administration or other social sciences with an emphasis on economics. Its primary aim is to improve comprehension of development economics, the global economic environment where socio-economic development takes place, and key sectors and policy areas that are important for developing countries, with specific focus on agriculture, financial institutions, and public enterprises. The program aims to cover both the principal theoretical discussions and particular modern examples of strategies, policies, and projects in order to understand the difficulties of formulating current development policies.

The DAAD supports the education of professionals from developing and newly industrialized nations through its postgraduate programs that focus on development. Trained local experts who have connections to international partners play a crucial role in achieving sustainable development in their countries. These experts are the best hope for creating a better future with reduced poverty and improved education and health for all. Scholarships are available for foreign graduates from developing and newly industrialized countries, regardless of their field, who have at least two years of professional experience. These scholarships provide the opportunity to pursue a postgraduate or Master's degree at a German university that is either state-run or state-recognized.
