What you'll study

The MEd curriculum combines a core of advanced professional studies with elective specialisms so you can tailor the degree to classroom practice, leadership or specialist support roles. Core topics commonly include research methods in education, assessment and data-informed instruction, curriculum design and development, classroom management and inclusive pedagogy.

• Curriculum and Instruction: unit and lesson design, standards-aligned planning, instructional strategies and differentiated instruction.
• Educational Leadership (where offered): school law and ethics, organisational leadership, supervision and school improvement planning.
• Special Education: assessment and intervention for diverse learners, behaviour support strategies, Individualised Education Program (IEP) processes.
• Instructional Technology: integrating digital tools, blended learning design, evaluation of educational technologies.
• Reading and Literacy: literacy assessment, intervention strategies across the age span, content-area literacy.
• Practicum/Capstone: many pathways include a supervised practicum, action research project or capstone that applies theory to practice in a school or community setting.

Entry requirements

Applicants are expected to hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. Candidates with a background in education (initial teacher preparation) may follow routes that lead to additional licensure or endorsement, while applicants from other disciplines can normally enrol on academic and some professional pathways.

• Official transcripts demonstrating satisfactory undergraduate performance.
• A personal statement or statement of purpose outlining professional goals and reasons for undertaking the MEd.
• References: academic or professional references that speak to your suitability for graduate study and work in educational settings.
• Some concentrations require or strongly prefer relevant professional experience and, for licensure tracks, a valid teaching certificate or evidence of meeting state licensure requirements.
• International applicants must meet English language proficiency requirements and provide documentation as requested by the university.
