What you'll study

The degree provides a broad grounding across the major areas of psychology alongside practical training in research and assessment. Core modules typically include Introduction to Psychology, Research Methods in Psychology, Statistics for the Social Sciences, Developmental Psychology, Social Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, Biological Bases of Behaviour and Cognitive Psychology.

As you progress you will study more specialised topics such as Psychological Testing and Assessment, Counselling Techniques, Psychopathology, Health Psychology and Applied Behaviour Analysis. Most students also complete a capstone or senior seminar and a supervised practicum or internship in a community, healthcare or educational setting to gain hands-on experience.

Throughout the degree there is an emphasis on scientific literacy, ethical practice, data analysis and written and oral communication. Elective options often allow you to explore areas such as forensic psychology, sport psychology, lifespan development, or substance misuse, and many students undertake an independent research project under faculty supervision.
