What you'll study

The programme combines broad business education with focused accounting study across a four‑year curriculum. In the early years you will take general education and core business courses such as introductory financial accounting, managerial accounting, micro‑ and macroeconomics, business statistics, business law and principles of finance. As you progress to upper‑level study, typical modules include intermediate financial accounting, auditing and assurance, taxation, cost/managerial accounting, accounting information systems, advanced financial reporting, and ethics in accounting.

Many students also study complementary subjects such as spreadsheet modelling and data analytics for accountants, corporate finance, accounting research and writing, and elective topics like forensic accounting, nonprofit accounting or international accounting. The degree normally includes a capstone course or practicum that integrates accounting knowledge into real‑world business problems, and opportunities for internships or practicum placements with accounting firms, businesses and public sector employers.

Entry requirements

Applicants should hold a recognised secondary school diploma or equivalent. Admissions typically consider your overall academic record with particular attention to mathematics and quantitative coursework; successful applicants usually demonstrate solid grades in algebra, statistics or calculus where available. Kent State evaluates applications holistically and may consider standardized test scores (SAT/ACT) when submitted, but specific requirements can vary by year and campus.

International applicants must provide evidence of equivalent secondary qualifications and proof of English language ability if their prior education was not in English. Transfer students should supply college transcripts; those transferring into the accounting major often need to have completed introductory accounting and prerequisite business courses or demonstrate the equivalent preparation.
