What you'll study

This programme builds a broad understanding of health and healthcare through a mix of life sciences, social sciences and practical training. Early modules establish core knowledge in human biology and disease mechanisms, while later study focuses on community health, systems and applied skills.

• Core science modules: anatomy and physiology, cellular and molecular biology, microbiology and pathophysiology.
• Public and community health: epidemiology, health promotion, global and environmental health, social determinants of health.

Entry requirements

Applicants are normally expected to hold a high-school diploma or equivalent with passes in English and mathematics. Successful applicants commonly have prior study in biology and/or chemistry. Specific expectations typically include:

• A demonstrated academic record with strong grades in science subjects where available.
• Evidence of preparedness for university study such as a personal statement explaining interest in health, and one or more references.
• Some programmes may ask for an interview or a discussion of relevant experience; prior volunteer or paid experience in a healthcare or community setting is advantageous.

Where applicants do not meet direct-entry criteria, the College may offer conditional admission, course bridging or advising on preparatory study.

• Allied health positions such as health promotion officer, community health worker, medical laboratory assistant or occupational therapy assistant (some roles may require additional vocational training or certification).

• Health administration and support roles in hospitals, clinics and care homes, with further on-the-job training or postgraduate study leading to management roles.
• Progression to professional programmes: many graduates use the degree as preparation for graduate-entry programmes in medicine, nursing, physician assistant studies, or specialised master’s degrees in public health or health sciences.
