What you'll study

The programme combines advanced theoretical study, rigorous research training and a sustained original dissertation project. Core topics typically include nursing theory and philosophy, advanced research methods (qualitative and quantitative), biostatistics, advanced health assessment and clinical decision-making, leadership and healthcare systems, ethics in healthcare, and health policy analysis. Students choose a pathway concentration—Nursing Administration, Nursing Research or Clinical Nursing—and take specialised seminars aligned to that pathway such as organisational leadership and finance for nursing managers (Administration), advanced experimental and mixed-methods designs (Research), or advanced clinical practice, diagnosis and therapeutic management (Clinical Nursing).

Teaching is usually delivered through a mixture of asynchronous online seminars, synchronous workshops, intensive residencies or practica where required, and one-to-one supervision for the dissertation. The programme culminates in the development and defence of an original doctoral dissertation that contributes new knowledge to the chosen field.

Entry requirements

• Academic qualification: A recognised master’s degree in nursing (MSN, MSc, or equivalent) from an accredited institution. Exceptional applicants with a closely related master’s and significant professional experience may be considered.
• Professional registration: Current, active registration as a nurse (RN) in the applicant’s country or state of practice.
