What you'll study

The curriculum focuses on advanced nursing knowledge, research methods, investigative aptitude, and management skills required for scholarly and leadership roles in health care. Entry requirements

• Current U.S. registered nurse (RN) license that is unencumbered.
• Completed master’s degree. Acceptable academic histories include a bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in nursing from a nationally accredited program, or a bachelor’s degree in a related field plus an entry-level nursing master’s degree.
• Minimum 3.0 GPA for all prior graduate work.
• Graduate-level research course and graduate-level nursing theory course required; provisional admission may be granted if either course is missing, but unconditional admission requires completing the missing master’s-level course with a grade of B or better.
• Application materials: curriculum vitae or resume; a scholarly essay (1,000–1,500 words) addressing professional goals, how a PhD supports those goals, potential research interest, fit with TWU, and notable accomplishments; email addresses for two academic/scholarly references (references submit letters directly to the application portal); and an interview with PhD faculty as part of the admission process.
• Admission timeline: February 1 application deadline to begin the following fall semester.
• Transcripts: official transcripts from all institutions attended; international applicants require a NACES or AICE evaluation and individual assessment of nursing credentials.

Graduates are prepared for leadership roles where they apply research to practice, teach and mentor nursing students, and contribute to interdisciplinary health-care problem solving. Typical career pathways include academic faculty positions, research roles in clinical or health systems, and senior clinical or administrative leadership posts where evidence-based decision-making and program development are required.
