What you'll study

This programme builds a solid foundation in microeconomics, macroeconomics and econometrics, then applies those tools to environmental issues such as pollution control, climate policy, resource management and valuation of ecosystem services. Core modules typically include intermediate microeconomics, intermediate macroeconomics, econometrics (with applied data analysis), environmental economics, natural resource economics and public economics. Electives and specialised classes commonly cover topics such as climate change economics, energy economics, cost–benefit analysis, environmental law and regulation, behavioural economics, and urban environmental policy.

Students also take quantitative methods across the degree — calculus, statistics and data analysis — and are expected to undertake empirical coursework using real datasets and software for economic modelling. The programme often culminates in a senior capstone or honours thesis in which students conduct original research on an applied environmental policy question under faculty supervision.
