This programme combines core engineering fundamentals with building-focused specialisms. Early years emphasise mathematics, physics, materials and introductory engineering mechanics. As you progress, core architectural engineering topics include structural analysis and design, building systems (mechanical, electrical and plumbing), HVAC and thermal performance, lighting and daylighting, acoustics, fire protection and life-safety, building envelope and façade engineering, construction methods and materials, and building science for energy and moisture control.
Applicants should hold a recognised high school diploma with strong preparation in mathematics (including precalculus and preferably calculus), physics and English. Selection is competitive and typically looks for a solid academic record in STEM subjects, strong problem-solving skills and evidence of teamwork or design interest.
Graduates are prepared for careers designing and delivering building projects where engineering performance is critical. Typical roles include structural engineer, building systems (MEP) engineer, façade or envelope engineer, building performance analyst, HVAC designer, acoustics consultant, fire protection engineer, BIM coordinator and construction engineer. Many graduates work for engineering consultancies, architecture-engineering firms, contractors, utilities or building product manufacturers; others progress to graduate study in engineering or professional licensure (such as the professional engineering path).
