What you'll study

The programme combines core musicianship training with specialised study in performance, composition, music technology and musical theatre. Typical modules include music theory and harmony, ear training, music history, applied lessons (private instruction on principal instrument or voice), ensemble participation (choral, chamber, orchestral and musical theatre ensembles), repertoire classes, and diction for singers. Technology and contemporary practice modules may cover digital audio workstations, recording techniques and music production. For students with a theatre focus, curriculum components include acting, movement, audition technique, scene study, musical staging and stagecraft. The degree culminates in a senior recital or capstone project that demonstrates performance, composition or production skills.

Entry requirements

Applicants are expected to have completed secondary education or an equivalent qualification and to present a demonstrable level of musical proficiency. Typical application materials include academic transcripts, a personal statement, letters of recommendation, and an audition or portfolio. The audition may be live or submitted as a recorded performance and usually requires prepared repertoire, sight-reading or a brief interview with faculty. International applicants will need to meet English language requirements. Some students may also be invited to meet additional placement or theory assessment requirements upon admission.

Graduates pursue a variety of careers across the music and theatre industries. Common pathways include professional performance (solo, ensemble and musical theatre), music education and private instruction, composition and songwriting, music production and sound engineering, arts administration and event production. Other roles include rehearsal director, stage manager, music director, dramaturg, and opportunities in media, film and broadcast music.
