Programme overview

The programme provides a comprehensive, practice-oriented introduction to the historical development and theory of architecture, art and urban design from antiquity to the present. Teaching emphasises an interdisciplinary setting with close personal supervision and links theoretical interpretation to practical concerns such as monument conservation, architecture mediation and cultural work. The standard period of study is six semesters, the language of instruction is German and the programme is offered as a full-time degree with intake in the winter semester at the Zentralcampus Cottbus. It is accredited by ZEvA and the course is admission-free (zulassungsfrei).

What you'll study

Students study historical and theoretical approaches to architecture, art and urbanism and learn to interpret buildings and artworks in relation to their cultural, social and technical conditions. Coursework connects cultural-science perspectives with practical requirements in monument preservation, museum and exhibition practice, publishing and public cultural communication. The curriculum also includes concrete insights into the challenges of planning and building.
