What you'll study

The MSN curriculum combines advanced nursing theory, research methods, leadership and practicum experience. Students select a concentration—Nursing Administration, Nursing Research or Clinical Nursing—and complete core advanced nursing modules alongside concentration-specific courses and a culminating scholarly project or practicum.

• Core modules: Advanced Pathophysiology; Advanced Pharmacology; Advanced Health Assessment; Healthcare Policy and Ethics; Nursing Research and Evidence-Based Practice; Biostatistics for Health Professions.
• Nursing Administration: Healthcare Leadership and Management; Financial Management in Healthcare; Quality Improvement and Patient Safety; Human Resources and Workforce Development; Strategic Planning for Health Services.
• Nursing Research: Research Design and Methods; Advanced Statistics for Nursing; Grant Writing and Dissemination; Translational Research and Evidence Implementation; Thesis or capstone project focused on original or applied research.
• Clinical Nursing: Advanced Clinical Decision-Making; Specialty-focused practicum courses; Clinical Simulation and Competency Assessment; Interprofessional Collaboration in Clinical Settings; capstone practicum demonstrating advanced clinical skill and leadership.
• Practicum and capstone: All tracks include supervised practicum hours or a research capstone appropriate to the concentration, providing applied experience in clinical, administrative or research settings.

Entry requirements

Applicants are expected to hold an active, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) licence. Typical entrants hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution. Applicants without a BSN but with substantial nursing experience may be considered for post-baccalaureate or bridge options where available; check the programme office for current pathways.

• Official transcripts showing a qualifying undergraduate degree; a competitive undergraduate GPA is usually required.
• Current, unrestricted RN licence.
• Professional résumé or CV demonstrating clinical experience.
• Personal statement outlining professional goals and choice of concentration.
• References or letters of recommendation from clinical or academic supervisors.
• Some applicants may be invited to an interview; standardised tests (e.g. GRE) are not routinely required but policies can vary—confirm with admissions.

• Nursing Administration: nurse manager, director of nursing, clinical operations manager, quality and safety director, policy analyst in healthcare organisations.
• Nursing Research: clinical research coordinator, research nurse, data analyst for clinical studies, roles in academic research teams or industry-sponsored research units, and preparation for doctoral study.
• Clinical Nursing: clinical nurse specialist, advanced practice roles within defined scopes, senior bedside clinician, clinical educator or coordinator of specialist services.
