What you'll study

The programme is organised around progressive design studios alongside supporting courses in representation, technology and theory. Early studies concentrate on drawing, spatial thinking and basic construction; middle years expand into digital modelling, materials and finishes, environmental systems and lighting; final years centre on complex interior interventions, integrated building systems, accessibility, codes, and a capstone project or portfolio that demonstrates professional competence.

Entry requirements

Applicants are normally expected to hold a high-school diploma or equivalent. A demonstrated interest in design through a portfolio is typically required or strongly recommended; the portfolio should show observational drawing, design work or creative problem solving. Successful applicants usually present academic transcripts with a solid record in relevant subjects (for example mathematics/geometry, art or technology), and may submit letters of recommendation and a personal statement describing design interests and experience. International applicants must meet the university's English proficiency expectations and present an equivalent secondary qualification.

Applicants transferring from other institutions should provide college transcripts and examples of college-level design work; prior coursework in design or studio courses can be advantageous. Prospective students should consult the School of Architecture & Design for specific portfolio guidelines and any audition or review procedures.

Graduates enter a range of roles in interior architecture and allied professions. Typical career paths include interior designer for residential, commercial, hospitality or healthcare projects; workplace strategist; exhibition and set designer; lighting or materials specialist; project coordinator or design assistant in architecture and interior design firms; and roles in product design, furniture design or retail space planning. Some graduates move into construction management, building information modelling (BIM) roles, sustainability consulting or facilities design.

The degree also provides a foundation for postgraduate study in architecture, interior architecture, historic preservation or design research. Many students complete internships during their studies to develop professional experience and industry contacts.
