What you'll study

The programme combines sustained studio practice with critical seminars and professional-development courses. Core elements typically include advanced studio courses in one or more specialisms (painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography, new media/digital art, ceramics, metals/jewellery), thematic and historical seminars in contemporary art theory and visual culture, critiques and independent study, and courses in professional practice such as exhibition development, grant writing and portfolio presentation.

• Academic qualification: a recognised bachelor’s degree in fine art, visual art, or a related discipline. Applicants with strong creative practice from another background may be considered.
• Portfolio: a current portfolio of work (digital images, video links, documentation) demonstrating technical skill and a clear artistic direction; portfolio requirements and format are provided by the school.
• Statement of purpose: a written statement outlining artistic goals, previous experience and reasons for pursuing graduate study.
• References: two to three academic or professional references attesting to the applicant’s readiness for graduate-level work.
• English language: for international applicants, evidence of English proficiency is required (accepted tests and minimum levels are specified by the university).
