What you'll study

The programme integrates core international relations theory and practice with historical analysis of international systems, empires, wars and transnational movements. You will study subjects such as international relations theory, diplomacy and foreign policy, global security and conflict, international political economy, and the history of international order from early modern to contemporary periods.

• Core international relations modules: foundations of IR theory, comparative foreign policy, global governance, international law and institutions.
• History modules: historiography and methods, modern diplomatic history, imperial and decolonisation studies, war and society, and regionally focused histories (for example Asia, Europe, the Middle East).
• Research and methods: qualitative and quantitative methods in social science, archival research, historical source analysis and a capstone research project or honours thesis option for eligible students.
• Electives and language study: opportunities to take language subjects, area studies, development studies, security studies or economics electives to tailor your degree to career interests.

Entry requirements

Applicants are expected to hold a completed secondary school qualification or recognised equivalent. Admission typically depends on a competitive senior secondary rank or other recognised entry pathways such as tertiary study, recognised diploma programs or mature-age admission.

• Domestic applicants should present a completed secondary qualification with the required university entrance rank or an approved alternative pathway.
• International applicants must demonstrate completion of a recognised secondary qualification equivalent to local university entry and meet English language proficiency requirements.
• Alternative entry routes include foundation programs, transfer from other tertiary institutions, and recognition of prior learning or professional experience for mature applicants.
