This double-focused bachelor degree brings together foundational and applied international relations subjects with progressive German language learning and cultural studies. Core international relations topics include theories of international relations, global governance, diplomacy and negotiation, foreign policy analysis, international security, and international law. Regional and thematic units allow study of European politics, the European Union, international political economy, human rights, development policy and transnational issues such as migration and climate change.

• German language sequence: beginners to advanced language modules covering listening, speaking, reading and writing, grammar, and practical communication for professional contexts.
• German culture and society: literature, film, history, politics and contemporary social issues in German-speaking countries.
• Applied skills: research methods, policy analysis, negotiation, intercultural communication and possibly translation/interpretation electives.

Entry requirements

Admission is based on satisfactory completion of secondary school qualification or an equivalent qualification for international applicants. Applicants are expected to meet the University of Adelaide's general entrance standard for undergraduate study and any program-specific prerequisites.
