What you'll study

The programme covers the full lifecycle of the built environment, balancing architectural design with engineering principles, construction technology and building performance. Core learning takes place through studio projects supported by modules in structural engineering, building physics, materials and construction methods, and construction management. You will also study urbanism and spatial planning, sustainability and energy systems, digital design and computational methods, and information modelling (BIM).

Typical components include:

• Design studio: iterative project work developing conceptual, technical and detailed design skills.
• Building technology: structural principles, materials behaviour, detailing and connections.
• Building physics and performance: heat, moisture, acoustics, daylighting and energy efficiency strategies.
• Construction and project management: procurement, contracts, costs, scheduling and site practices.
• Digital methods: CAD, parametric modelling, computational design and BIM workflows.
• Urban design and planning: context analysis, zoning, landscape integration and infrastructure considerations.
• Electives and multidisciplinary projects: opportunities to specialise in topics such as sustainability, renovation, smart buildings or advanced manufacturing.

Learning is project-based and studio-centred, with laboratory work, workshops in digital fabrication and collaboration with industry partners. The programme prepares you for further research or a professional master's degree if you wish to become a registered architect or specialise further.

Entry requirements

Applicants are expected to hold a secondary school diploma equivalent to the Dutch vwo (pre-university) level with a strong background in mathematics. Physics and chemistry are recommended; programmes with a focus on science, technology or engineering are preferred. For international applicants, recognised equivalents (such as certain international baccalaureates or national secondary certificates) are considered.

As the Bachelor's in Bouwkunde at Eindhoven is primarily delivered in Dutch, proficiency in Dutch is normally required; some courses, literature and project collaborations use English, so competence in English is also important. Applicants may be asked to submit a portfolio demonstrating visual and design-related skills, and may be required to attend an entrance interview or assessment.

Typical roles include architect (following completion of a professional master's or registration process), building or façade consultant, structural or building services collaborator, construction project manager, BIM coordinator, sustainability or energy adviser, urban designer, and renovation specialist.
