What you'll study

The Life Sciences bachelor at HAN combines foundational biological sciences with applied laboratory skills and project-based learning. Core topics include molecular and cell biology, microbiology, biochemistry, genetics, immunology and laboratory techniques such as PCR, gel electrophoresis, spectrophotometry and microscopy. Applied modules cover biotechnology methods, fermentation and bioprocessing, quality assurance, environmental analysis, food microbiology and data handling in the life sciences (including basic bioinformatics and statistics).

The programme emphasises practical training: regular laboratory practicals, case studies linked to industry needs, multidisciplinary projects and supervised research assignments. Students progress from introductory modules in the first year to more specialised electives and an extended professional project or graduation assignment in the final year. There is also a period of work-based learning or an internship where students apply skills in a company, research institute or hospital laboratory.

Entry requirements

Applicants should have a secondary school diploma that qualifies them for higher professional education in their country, with a solid background in science subjects. Typical prerequisites include mathematics and at least one of biology or chemistry; physics is beneficial. HAN requires proof of language proficiency for programmes taught in English from candidates whose prior education was not in English (for example, recognised English tests or prior education in English).

Selection may include evaluation of the applicant's motivation, study record and suitability for a practice-focused programme; some applicants may be asked to attend an interview or complete an assignment.
