What you'll study

This master's develops applied knowledge across contemporary health practice, with an emphasis on evidence-based care, service improvement and professional leadership. Students choose units that reflect clinical specialisms, workforce needs and research interests, and may follow a coursework-plus-project pathway or a coursework-plus-research thesis pathway.

• Core topics: Advanced evidence-based practice, Research methods and biostatistics, Health systems and policy, Clinical governance and quality improvement.
• Applied and clinical units: Advanced assessment and diagnostic reasoning, Therapeutic interventions and management, Interprofessional practice and communication, Patient safety and risk management.
• Leadership and management: Health service leadership, Project management in health care, Implementation science and change management.
• Research and capstone: A practice-based capstone project that addresses a real service problem, or a supervised research thesis for students pursuing academic research.

Teaching is typically delivered through a mix of lectures, seminars, case-based learning, simulation and supervised practice or placement with assessment by coursework, projects and a final capstone or thesis.

Entry requirements

Applicants are normally expected to hold a recognised bachelor degree in a health, biomedical or related discipline, or an equivalent qualification with evidence of relevant professional experience. Registered health practitioners (for example nurses, allied health professionals or other regulated clinicians) will generally be eligible and may receive recognition for prior learning.

• Evidence of relevant professional experience or registration where applicable.
• English language proficiency demonstrated by an approved test or other recognised evidence if your prior study was not in English.
• Some applicants may be asked to supply a CV, referees’ reports and a brief statement of intent; selection may include interview for certain specialisations.
