What you'll study

The Master of Business offers a flexible mix of advanced coursework and a major research dissertation or applied project. You select a specialisation—common options include Accounting, Finance, Marketing, Management, Human Resource Management, International Business and Information Systems—and study core advanced subjects relevant to that field together with quantitative methods and research design.

• Specialist modules: advanced topics in your chosen subject such as strategic management, consumer behaviour, corporate finance, auditing and assurance, or digital business strategy.
• Research methods: coursework in research design, statistics for business, and qualitative or mixed-method approaches preparing you for the dissertation or project.
• Capstone or dissertation: a substantial independent research thesis or an industry-focused applied project that integrates theory with practice.
• Electives: opportunity to choose complementary papers from other business areas or related disciplines to broaden skills (for example entrepreneurship, sustainability or analytics).

The programme is offered full-time or part-time and can usually be completed in one to two years full-time, depending on whether you undertake a thesis or a purely coursework route.

Entry requirements

Admission normally requires a recognised bachelor’s degree in business or a closely related discipline with a sufficiently strong academic record. Applicants with a general degree plus relevant work experience may also be considered.

• Academic standard: a good undergraduate degree; some applicants will be expected to have achieved a B average or equivalent in relevant final-year subjects.
• Research preparation: applicants planning the thesis route should demonstrate aptitude for research, typically shown through prior coursework performance or a research methods paper.
• Professional experience: relevant work experience can strengthen an application, particularly for applied/project pathways or where prior study is not directly in business.
• English language: international applicants must meet the university’s English language requirements (for example an approved English test at the level normally expected for postgraduate study).
• Additional requirements: some specialisations may require prerequisite undergraduate papers (for example accounting or finance subjects); check with the faculty for advised preparation.

Graduates progress to a wide range of professional roles in the private, public and not-for-profit sectors. Typical career destinations include:

• Management and leadership roles in commerce and industry (business manager, operations manager, strategy analyst).
• Specialist practitioner roles such as accountant, financial analyst, marketing manager, HR manager or information systems analyst—often following appropriate professional accreditation pathways.
• Consulting and advisory positions in management consulting, policy or economic development organisations.
• Data and analytics roles where business knowledge and quantitative skills combine (business analyst, market researcher).
• Further research and academic pathways, including progression to a PhD for those who complete the research thesis component.
