What you'll study

This programme combines technical construction knowledge with management and professional skills. Core topics typically include construction technology and materials, building science and services, site and project management, contract law and procurement, estimating and cost control, construction health and safety, sustainability and building code compliance. You will study project planning and scheduling, risk and quality management, and be introduced to digital tools used in the industry such as BIM and construction scheduling software.

Learning is delivered through a mix of lectures, workshops, laboratory work and practical site-based tasks. The degree usually culminates in a capstone project or integrated design-and-delivery module where students apply their learning to a real or simulated construction brief. Work-integrated learning and industry visits are embedded to connect classroom learning with current practice.

Entry requirements

Entry to the Bachelor of Construction is generally at undergraduate level and requires completion of secondary school qualifications that meet New Zealand university entrance standards (for domestic applicants). Typical preparation includes strong pass grades in English and mathematics or a related numeracy subject. Applicants without a traditional academic background but with relevant construction industry experience or vocational qualifications may be considered through alternative admission pathways.
