What you'll study

This program provides a foundation in the scientific principles underpinning environmental processes and human–environment interactions. Core topics typically include ecology and biodiversity, environmental chemistry, soil and water science, climate change science, and environmental monitoring techniques. You will also study applied subjects such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS), remote sensing, environmental impact assessment, pollution management and conservation planning.

Learning emphasises hands‑on skill development: field methods and surveying, laboratory analysis, data management and statistical techniques for environmental data. The degree usually culminates in a capstone project or a work‑based placement that integrates discipline knowledge with practical problem solving. Elective choices allow you to focus on areas such as conservation biology, natural resource management, sustainability, or environmental policy and planning.

Entry requirements

• Successful completion of secondary school (Year 12 or equivalent) with recommended studies in science subjects such as biology, chemistry or mathematics.
• Applicants without a science background are often considered but may be required to complete bridging units to build essential skills in mathematics and science methods.
• Alternative entry pathways include recognised vocational qualifications, prior tertiary study or relevant work experience; mature‑age applicants are encouraged to apply through these routes.
• International applicants must meet English language proficiency requirements as set by the university.
