It suits students who want to work in allied health, high-performance sport, community fitness or exercise-related research and who value a hands-on, industry-linked education.
This bachelor degree combines foundational biomedical and behavioural sciences with applied exercise and sport practice. Core topics typically include exercise physiology, exercise prescription and rehabilitation, biomechanics, motor control and learning, sport science and performance analysis, sports nutrition, health promotion and physical activity measurement.
Study is delivered through a mix of lectures, laboratory practicals, structured tutorials and workplace learning. Practical components emphasise laboratory-based testing (cardiorespiratory, metabolic and musculoskeletal), strength and conditioning methods, field-based testing for athletes, and client-centred exercise programming for clinical and community settings. Most students complete a capstone unit or major project and undertake supervised professional placements with community organisations, clinics, sports clubs or industry partners.
The program is typically structured over three years of full-time study with options for part-time study. Students may have opportunities to choose electives or specialisations within areas such as strength and conditioning, rehabilitation, community health or high-performance sport. Advanced standing can be granted for recognised prior learning or vocational qualifications.
Entry is open to applicants who have completed secondary education or an equivalent qualification. Central Queensland University considers a combination of academic results, relevant work or volunteer experience, and other supporting documentation for admission. Applicants whose first language is not English will need to meet the university's English language proficiency requirements.
