This program combines interdisciplinary theory with applied practice to equip you with tools for sustainable planning, assessment and governance. • Sustainability Foundations: concepts and frameworks for sustainable development, planetary boundaries and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
• Environmental Management and Assessment: methods for environmental impact assessment, monitoring and mitigation planning.
• Policy, Planning and Governance: policy analysis, governance structures, planning for resilience and adaptation.
• Social and Community Dimensions: stakeholder engagement, participatory approaches, Indigenous perspectives and social impact assessment.
• Sustainable Business and Economics: environmental economics, circular economy principles, corporate sustainability strategies.

Delivery is often flexible to accommodate on-campus and online students, with a mix of lectures, seminars, case studies, fieldwork and applied projects. Students can usually choose elective subjects to specialise in areas such as natural resource management, urban sustainability, climate change adaptation, or development practice.

Entry requirements

Admission is typically offered to applicants who hold a recognised bachelor degree in a related discipline (for example environmental science, planning, development studies, social science, business or engineering) or who can demonstrate relevant professional experience. Applicants without a directly related undergraduate degree but with significant relevant work experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Academic transcripts and a statement of purpose outlining your interest and experience in sustainable development are usually required.

All applicants whose prior study was not in English will normally need to meet the university's English language requirements through an accepted test score or equivalent evidence of proficiency. International applicants should check specific documentation requirements for their country and visa category.
