What you'll study

This programme combines core modules in public and private international law with options that allow you to specialise in areas such as international human rights, international criminal law, international trade and investment law, dispute resolution, and maritime or environmental law. Typical taught modules include Public International Law, Private International Law (Conflict of Laws), International Human Rights Law, International Criminal Law, International Trade and Investment Law, Methods of Legal Research, and a major independent dissertation or research project.

Teaching is delivered through seminars, lectures, case studies and assessed coursework. The dissertation (or major research project) enables you to apply doctrinal and interdisciplinary methods to a chosen topic under supervisor guidance. The programme is available full-time and part-time, allowing flexibility for those in employment.

Entry requirements

Applicants are normally expected to hold an undergraduate degree in law or a related discipline at a good honours level (for example UK 2:1 or equivalent). Candidates with non-law degrees plus relevant professional experience or conversion qualifications are also considered. International applicants must demonstrate proficiency in English; typical institutional guidance requires a recognised English language qualification at a level appropriate for postgraduate study (for example IELTS or equivalent). All applicants submit a personal statement and academic references; some applicants may be invited to interview.

Graduates go on to careers in legal practice (including international and commercial law firms), international organisations, non-governmental organisations, public service and policy making, compliance and regulatory roles, and consultancy. The degree also provides a strong foundation for doctoral study or academic careers.
