What you'll study

The OMIS PhD programme combines advanced theoretical study with substantial empirical research. Core study typically includes advanced research design and methodology (quantitative and qualitative), contemporary organisation and management theory, and specialised subjects in information systems such as digital transformation, enterprise information architectures, human–computer interaction in organisations, and data analytics for management.

During the early phase of the programme students take seminars in research methods, literature review and academic writing, and elective modules that reflect their chosen dissertation topic (for example: knowledge management, e‑government/ public sector informatics, project and change management, business intelligence, or cybersecurity governance). The main component of the degree is an original doctoral dissertation supervised by academic staff, supported by research seminars, publication and conference activity, and opportunities for teaching or research assistantships.

Entry requirements

Applicants are normally expected to hold a relevant master’s degree or equivalent in management, information systems, organisational science, computer science, economics or a closely related discipline. A clear and feasible research proposal that aligns with departmental expertise is required, together with a curriculum vitae, academic transcripts and letters of reference.

Selection typically involves assessment of academic standing and research potential; shortlisted candidates are usually interviewed by a faculty panel to discuss the proposal and supervisory fit. Demonstrable research experience (publications, conference papers, or research assistant roles) is an advantage. Candidates whose first language is not the language of instruction must meet the faculty’s language requirements or demonstrate sufficient language proficiency.
