What you'll study

The programme blends quantitative methods, computing skills and business applications. Core topics typically include data management and databases, statistical inference and econometrics, predictive analytics and machine learning, data mining, business intelligence and visualisation, optimisation and decision models, and big data technologies. Practical modules focus on programming for analytics (commonly in Python or R), SQL and data warehousing, as well as the application of analytics to functional areas such as marketing, finance and operations.

Study is delivered through a combination of lectures, hands-on laboratory sessions, case studies and group projects. The curriculum normally culminates in an independent research dissertation or applied analytics project undertaken with faculty supervision or in partnership with an industry host.

Entry requirements

Applicants are expected to hold a good bachelor's degree from a recognised university. Suitable disciplinary backgrounds include business, economics, statistics, computer science, mathematics, engineering and other quantitative or technology-related fields. Applicants with a non-quantitative first degree may be considered if they can demonstrate substantial quantitative preparation or relevant professional experience.

Typical application materials include academic transcripts, a personal statement outlining motivation and experience in analytics or related fields, and references. International applicants whose first language is not English will normally be required to demonstrate proficiency in English through an accepted test or documented prior study in English.
