A 40-credit Master of Science in Computer Science that combines coursework with a thesis, project or course-only route. Suited to graduates from computing, engineering or related science/technical disciplines seeking advanced technical depth or research training in a chosen specialization.

What you'll study

The curriculum comprises core courses, a chosen area of specialization, and electives with different arrangements depending on the route:

  • Credit requirement: 40 credit hours in total.
  • Core: Three core course credits (two 3-credit courses + one 1-credit course) including CSC5011 Computer Science Applications and Advancements, CSC5012 Computer Ethics and Governance, and CSC5013 Foundation in Computer Programming (1 credit).
  • Specialization (18 credits): Select one area and complete six 3-credit specialization courses. Available areas are: Interactive System Engineering; Computer Network & Cyber Security; Data Science; Software Engineering; Intelligent Systems. Example courses across specializations include CSC5111 Human Computer Interaction, CSC5211 Cyber Security and Management, CSC5314 Big Data Technologies, CSC5412 Software Construction, and CSC5512 Machine Learning & Neural Networks.
  • Electives & capstone (varies by route): - Research-based: 3 electives (9 credits) + Thesis (6 credits). - Project-based: 4 electives (12 credits) + Project (3 credits). - Course-based: 5 electives (15 credits).
  • Foundation courses: For applicants without prior CS-related degrees, CSC5001 Foundation in Computing and CSC5002 Foundation in Computer Systems (each 3 credits) may be required.

Entry requirements

Applicants need a 4-year undergraduate degree in CS, CSE, CIS, SE, CSSE, EEE, COE, ECE, MIS, Mathematics, Electronics, Physics, Applied Physics or another science/technical discipline as approved by the Program Director, with a minimum CGPA of 2.5 or equivalent. Admission requires an acceptable score on the AIUB-administered admission test or a GRE General Test score above 1100 on the Quantitative and Verbal parts, plus two letters of recommendation. Candidates must pass the written and viva components of the admission test; the Program Director may require up to 6 credits of prerequisite/remedial coursework before starting graduate courses.

Graduates emerge with advanced technical or research skills applicable across software development, networking and security, data science, human–computer interaction, and AI/ intelligent systems. The programme prepares students for technical specialist roles, research positions, or further doctoral study depending on the chosen track and specialization.
