See the degree grade →HAN University's Bachelor in Communication is a practice-focused programme that trains students to design and manage strategic communication across media, organisations and public contexts. It suits students who enjoy writing, media production, strategy and working on real-life communication challenges in teams.
This full-time, professionally oriented bachelor programme combines communication theory with hands-on practice. Across the programme you study core topics such as communication theory and research methods, corporate and organisational communication, media and society, branding and reputation management, campaign planning, crisis communication and ethics and law in communication.
Practical modules build skills in digital and social media strategy, content creation (writing, audio and video), visual communication, multimedia production, and user-centred design for communication. You also work on strategic planning, stakeholder analysis, measurement and evaluation of communication activities using qualitative and quantitative techniques.
The curriculum is project-based with case studies, client briefs and collaborative assignments. Students undertake a supervised work placement (internship) to gain professional experience and complete a graduation project that demonstrates their ability to apply theory to a real organisational communication challenge. Electives and minor options allow specialisation in areas such as public relations, digital marketing, internal communication, international communication or media production.
Applicants need an upper-secondary school diploma that qualifies them for higher education in their home country. For applicants whose previous education was not in English, proof of English proficiency is required — this may be a recognised language test or previous education carried out in English. Applicants are also expected to submit a motivation statement and may be invited to an interview or assessment to demonstrate interest, communication skills and suitability for the practice-oriented approach.
Relevant prior experience, a portfolio of media work, or evidence of extracurricular communication activities can strengthen an application. Specific additional requirements may apply to EU/EEA and international applicants; consult HAN admissions for personalised guidance.
Graduates move into a wide range of communication roles across public, private and non-profit sectors. Typical career paths include public relations practitioner, corporate or internal communications officer, social media or content manager, campaign planner, brand or marketing communications specialist, communication consultant, community manager and media producer.
Because the programme emphasises applied skills and industry links, graduates also find roles in event communication, stakeholder engagement, government and public affairs, and in specialist areas such as crisis communication, employer branding and digital analytics. Some alumni continue to postgraduate studies in communication, media studies or marketing.
HAN is a university of applied sciences with a strong emphasis on practice, industry collaboration and applied research. Communication students benefit from project-based teaching that involves real clients, multidisciplinary teamwork and work placements that build a professional portfolio before graduation.
Facilities include multimedia labs and production equipment, and the programme maintains links with regional and national organisations, giving access to internships and professional networks. Small-group coaching, career support and an emphasis on transferable skills — such as research, presentation and digital production — prepare graduates to step directly into communication roles or to pursue further study.
