• Working Safely in Engineering
• Developing skills in making engineering components using hand tools
• Developing skills in using a bench or pedestal drilling machine
• Developing skills in planning and making a machined product
• Developing skills in assembling mechanical components
• Developing skills in joining materials using welding
• Developing skills in electronic assembly
• Developing skills in routine servicing of mechanical equipment and electrical systems
• Starting work in Engineering

Entry requirements

Applicants must have 4 GCSEs at grades 9–2, including English Language.

Career prospects

The diploma is intended as preparatory training to enable progression to Level 2 study. Typical next steps named by the course include Level 2 programmes in Engineering, Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Principles, Electrical Installation, Computing or Applied Science, which in turn lead toward technician roles, specialist vocational qualifications or apprenticeships.
