What you'll study

The second‑year programme is organised in semester units. Core teaching areas and units include:

• UE1 Connaissances Transversales (6 ECTS)
• UE2 Microbiologie Clinique (6 ECTS)
• UE3 Résistance aux antibiotiques et pathogénie - phénotype (6 ECTS)
• UE4 Microorganismes pathogènes et environnement (6 ECTS)
• UE5 Projet tutoré with an English presentation of the project (6 ECTS)

Subject competencies emphasised across the programme include: identification of pathogens involved in hospital and community outbreaks; principles and ecological impact of antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal chemotherapy; mechanisms and dissemination of antibiotic resistance in clinical and environmental contexts; molecular typing methods up to whole genome sequencing; epidemiology, surveillance and data management for severe, emerging or epidemic infections; and communication of results in French and English.

Entry requirements

Target applicants are holders of a Licence in life sciences or another biology degree with an interest in microbiology, students who have validated a Master 1 in biology or health, medical and pharmacy interns, practising physicians and pharmacists, hospital hygienists and epidemiologists, or professionals who hold an M1 or equivalent. The programme also accepts trainees via continuing education routes (retraining or VAE).

Career prospects

Graduates commonly progress to doctoral studies. Professional outcomes include roles in public sector health establishments and research organisations, national and international agencies (for example reference centres and public health agencies), and positions in private industry such as pharmaceutical and agri‑food companies.
