What you'll study

Study takes place as individualized or small‑group preparation tailored to the discipline and the candidate's needs. The formal structure requires accumulation of 240 credits over eight semesters. After four semesters students must take a complex (comprehensive) examination that assesses study progress and research achievements; passing that exam is required to enter the dissertation phase.

Entry requirements

Admission follows completion of a master's degree. The university published an admissions call for the 2026/27 academic year with a deadline of 6 August 2026. Candidates may apply to the five doctoral schools listed above. For individual preparation applicants, student status is established upon passing the complex exam.

Graduates complete a doctoral degree (PhD or DLA where applicable), positioning them for careers that require advanced research skills, academic posts, R&D roles in industry, or leadership positions in innovation and technical fields aligned with their doctoral school. The programme’s emphasis on research and dissertation work targets those pursuing long‑term academic or specialist research trajectories.

Scholarships & funding angle

Óbuda University offers several funding and study‑mode options: state‑funded full‑time places, self‑funded full‑time and part‑time arrangements (with some school-specific exclusions), cooperative doctoral training with additional state support, and a self‑funded researcher‑excellence doctoral route. The Építészet, Design és Technológia school additionally runs a state‑funded full‑time DLA programme.
