What you'll study

The program requires 36 credits and is delivered predominately online with on-campus options. Courses run in eight-week terms with one-week summer intensive courses. The curriculum emphasizes connections between theory and practice and includes opportunities for internships and graduate assistantships to gain supervised, real-world experience.

Students design the concentration to meet personal career goals in higher education leadership or related areas. Graduates of the program have formal articulation benefits with partner doctoral programs: Azusa Pacific waives the GRE for its Ed.D. and Ph.D. in higher education and may grant two units of advanced standing; Bethel University offers a University Partnership Scholarship (up to $400/semester, max $1,200/year) and potential course waivers; Immaculata University provides a transfer-credit benefit allowing one three-credit foundational course to be waived; Union University permits transfer of up to four classes toward its Ed.D. and exempts Messiah graduates from the GRE admission requirement.

Scholarships & funding angle (general)

Messiah’s program features no-fee tuition (no additional university charges for labs, courses, services or technology) and graduate assistantships are available. Deferred billing is offered for students with employer reimbursement. Students are eligible to apply for federal financial aid. At the 2026–2027 rate the no-fee tuition is $820 per graduate credit hour, totaling $29,520 for the 36-credit program; tuition is subject to annual adjustment.
