Degree Level:

The Institute of Photonic Sciences (ICFO) Spain Student Research Fellowships Spring 2024. is available to undertake Fellowship level programs at ICFO – The Institute of Photonic Sciences.

ICFO offers the opportunity to undertake a Final Degree Project / Masters Thesis or to participate in a Research Stay with one of their Research Groups.

Scholarship Benefits:

ICFO warmly welcomes applications from master's students and advanced undergraduates eager to embark on a research project within an ICFO group or conduct their bachelor's or master's thesis.

The program's award encompasses funding for a period of up to 12 months. While the start date is flexible, it must not extend beyond December 2024.

To formalize the stay, a training agreement between the student's home university/institution and ICFO is required. Any fellowship offer at ICFO is contingent upon verifying the feasibility of the training agreement.

For students residing in Catalunya, the fellowship provides a stipend of 300 euros monthly gross. Non-Catalunya residents receive a stipend of 600 euros monthly gross for full-time dedication. Additionally, eligible travel expenses are covered.

Eligibility Criteria:

Candidates must meet the following requirements to be considered for ICFO Student Research Fellowships:

• Enrollment/Registration: Candidates should be currently enrolled/registered in an undergraduate or master's program during the internship period at ICFO.
• Eligible Areas: Areas of eligibility include, but are not limited to, Physics, Engineering, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Biology.
• English Proficiency: Possess a high working knowledge of English.

• Proactive attitudes, community involvement, and capacity for teamwork.

Application Procedure:

1st Step: Application Submission for ICFO Student Research Fellowships

To pursue an ICFO Student Research Fellowship, eligible candidates must submit the following documents in English by the deadline of March 27, 2024:

• A presentation/cover letter indicating the research group(s) of interest, specific internship period and duration preferences, and addressing why this program will enhance their career.
• Curriculum Vitae (CV) in English, including contact details.
• Scanned copies of academic transcripts for undergraduate and postgraduate studies (if applicable), in English or Spanish.
• Name and contact details of one potential referee. Only shortlisted candidates will have their referee contacted for a reference letter.

Ensure all required application materials are complete by the deadline to be considered.

2nd Step: Review Process for ICFO Student Research Fellowships

• During the initial review, applications will be assessed for eligibility, and candidates will be notified accordingly.
• Eligible applications will undergo evaluation and ranking by the Selection Committee.
• Top-ranked candidates proceed to the matching stage, engaging in discussions with ICFO Group Leader(s) to explore research interests, project suitability, and other conditions. An interview, either in person or online, is a crucial part of this process.
• Upon mutual agreement between the candidate and ICFO Group Leader(s), the candidate will receive an official fellowship offer from ICFO.
• All applicants will receive notifications about the decision in their case by the end of May 2024 at the latest.
