What you'll study

The Diploma of Health combines foundational clinical knowledge with practical workplace skills. Core topics typically include human anatomy and physiology; infection prevention and control; health communication and interpersonal skills; basics of clinical practice and allied health assistance; workplace health and safety; legal and ethical frameworks in health; and health promotion and community service concepts.

Study is competency based and emphasises hands-on learning: skills labs, simulation activities and practical assessments are used to build confidence in routine clinical tasks, safe manual handling, basic screening and patient-support techniques. Assessment methods commonly include written assignments, practical demonstrations, case studies and workplace-based assessments.

Entry requirements

Entry is designed to be accessible to vocational learners. Typical requirements include completion of secondary schooling or demonstrated equivalent skills through prior study or relevant work experience. Domestic applicants may be asked to complete an interview or literacy and numeracy assessment to confirm readiness for the course.

International applicants will need to meet Southern Cross University's English-language requirements for vocational programmes and satisfy any visa or health clearance requirements.
